AI policy · #genAI365

How we use AI, in plain view.

We use generative AI every day, and we document it. Here’s where it helps, where we draw the line, and what you can expect on your project.

Where it helps

AI does the legwork. People make the calls.

  • Research and first drafts

AI helps us scan sources and draft options faster. A person rewrites every draft and checks every claim against its source.

  • Visual exploration

We sketch concepts and moodboards in Adobe Firefly, including Custom Models trained on our own illustrations.

  • Custom models for clients

When a client wants on-brand imagery at scale, we train models only on assets the client owns (Firefly Custom Models or LoRA).

  • Prototypes and specs

AI assistants speed up prototypes and handoff specs. Every prototype is still tested by hand with screen readers, keyboard and zoom.

Where we draw the line

We never use AI to:

  • Decide whether something passes WCAG. Automated tools miss many issues; people test and people decide.
  • Train on your files without written permission.
  • Put confidential, patient or personal data into public AI tools.
  • Generate images of real people without their consent.
  • Sell an overlay widget as accessibility compliance.

On your project

What you can expect

  • Disclosure

Handoff notes list which deliverables used AI, which tools, and how a person reviewed them.

  • Your call

Prefer no AI on your project? Tell us at kickoff and we’ll scope it without.

  • Ownership

You own the final work. Models trained on your assets are yours, and we delete our copies at handoff if you ask.

  • Review-ready

Documentation is written to hold up in MLR, legal and procurement review.

#genAI365: the experiments, in public

Our founder, Jerlyn O’Donnell, documents one AI experiment a day: what worked, what failed, and what’s safe to use with clients. We beta test the tools that affect our industry before we recommend them.

IMPORTANT ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION

INDICATION: Design Lady is indicated for organizations whose websites, documents, and campaigns must work for every person who uses them.

Do not launch if your site has images without alt text, text contrast below 4.5:1, or form fields without labels.

SIDE EFFECTS of inaccessible design may include lost customers, failed procurement reviews, and federal lawsuits (3,117 filed in 2025).

Tell your developer if you rely on an overlay widget. In 2025, 24.9% of website accessibility lawsuits targeted sites that had one installed.
